Another big year in sports for the Pioneers

As usual, the Queen Elizabeth High School community had a lot to celebrate this past year on the ice, turf, pitch and gymnasium.
Some of those moments were relived at the school’s annual Athlete Night held just before classes ended for the summer last month.
“Our QE Athlete Night is an annual evening not only dedicated to the athletic success of our 2024-2025 season, but to send appreciation to all of our volunteer coaches and teachers,” said Stephanie Walsh, the school’s physical education teacher and athletic director.
“This year’s athletic calendar was buzzing with teams competing almost every weekend from September to June,” Walsh added. “We had 24 athletic teams, and over 200 athletes competing this year in both male, female and co-ed crews.”
Some highlights of the past school year included: the Girls Rugby team was crowned Provincial Champions and Spring 7’s Tournament Champs; the Boys Slopitch team placed 2nd place at the 4A Qualifiers; the Pioneers took 2nd Place in Cheerleading at The Big Bite Championships; the boys hoop squad won silver at the Holy Spirit High and Holy Heart of Mary Invitationals; the Girls Basketball team earned 2nd place in the Metro League; the 18U Girls Volleyball took the Silver Medal in Tier 2 play, while the Boys team were Tier 2 Champs at Volleyfest.
“And once again we are the Provincial Boys Fastpitch Champs,” said Walsh. “Girls Ice Hockey won the League Championship, the Beaumont Hamel Cup and our Girls Ball Hockey team defended their 4A Ball Hockey Championship. We also can’t forget our Boys and Girls Ice Hockey Teams taking home the Fred Squires and Annie Parsons Shields (during Winterfest).”
