Doyle looking to Northpine for transportation help in Carbonear

Carbonear councillor Danielle Doyle is hoping her town can find a way to get the philanthropic group Northpine Foundation to provide money for an accessible transportation system.
Doyle, who chairs the Town’s economic development and planning committee, told council on May 12 that her committee had hosted a presentation by Northpine’s Newfoundland and Labrador Impact Director, Mark Lane.
“I’m not sure if some of you were aware of Northpine but I guess the best way to put it, they’re kind of a philanthropist group that has access to funds,” Doyle said. “And they fund community projects for marginalized populations to support them, here in Newfoundland in particular, but they are in operation in other places across the country.”
Doyle said her committee became aware of Northpine after learning about its role in operating a transportation system in St. Anthony.
“As everyone on council is aware, with the hospital, with the College of the North Atlantic, a lot of newcomers coming to work in our town, one of the barriers they are increasingly talking about is transportation,” Doyle said. “So, we basically had a presentation on what Northpine is and ways that we may be able to submit some kind of an application to them in order to better help the residents – residents who’ve lived here their whole lives, new residents, students, everybody – to make accessibility around our municipality easier on people.”
Doyle said the committee intends to have further discussions with the Northpine Foundation to determine what an application might look like and how the committee would go about submitting it.
