CBS scores big savings with Canada Games purchase

The Canada Summer Games are not even started, but the Town of CBS is already calling dibs on a state-of-the-art volleyball court and net system that will be available for purchase once the event is over.
Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley said by buying the system for $50,000, the Town will save an estimated $200,000 from not having to buy it new for the new community centre.
“This purchase is going to go a long way towards future use at our new community centre,” said Tilley. “The total purchase costs if we were to buy this new would be in excess of $275,000 so we’re getting a bargain for sure and we’re certainly happy to take it off the hands of the Summer Games and put it to use in our new community centre hopefully in the fall of 2026, hopefully, knock on wood.”
Mayor Darrin Bent said the Town is taking a prudent approach to the matter. “This equipment will have had about three weeks use on it when we get it after the Canada Summer Games so it’s pretty good,” he said.
Councillor-at-Large Rex Hillier, himself a past provincial volleyball all star, was delighted with the decision.
“This is the court that will be used for volleyball at the Canada Games,” he said. “And for it to come into our facility, it will certainly supplement and complement what we already have there and will allow us to host high end competitions – university games, national tournaments, national championships and so on. So, as councillor Tilley said, $50,000 for a $250,000 system is fabulous.”
