Paradise staff volunteering for Canada Games granted paid leave

Town of Paradise employees will be able to avail of paid leave to volunteer for the Canada Summer Games, as per the new Canada Games Volunteerism Policy approved by council last week.
“The purpose of the policy is to assist in the volunteer recruitment efforts for the Canada Games, who are seeking up to 5,000 volunteers for this summer,” said councillor Patrick Martin.
The policy will allow staff who dedicate 32 hours of volunteer time to take upwards of 16 hours of paid special ‘Canada Games’ leave time that will have no impact on their annual leave entitlement.
Council approved the motion unanimously.
“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank anyone who puts their name forward, as it relates to staff,” said Martin. “It’s a big commitment, 32 hours, but I think it’s something you will remember for the rest of your life. I know they’re still short on volunteers but they’re getting pretty close to their goal, and we want to make sure they’re successful in getting the numbers they need. So, hats off to anybody who puts their name forward.”
