CBS council hires firm to help with mail-in voting this fall

By Mark Squibb

Most eyes may be focused on Monday’s federal election, but that’s not preventing Town of CBS officials from putting the machinery in place for this coming fall’s municipal election.

To that end, council has appointed the Town’s Director of Finance, Liz Davis to serve as the Alternate Returning Officer for the vote. Town Clerk Gail Pomroy is the Returning Officer.

Council also set Nomination Day for the October 2 election as Thursday, September 4 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. An Advance Poll for the election will be conducted on Saturday, September 20 at the Town Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

And finally, the Town has hired Comprint Systems Incorporated, better known as DataFix, to provide software for the election at an estimated cost of $102,550. DataFix will help with the compilation of the Voters List and the Vote by Mail process.

“We have the opportunity for people to do mail-in voting and this system allows that,” said Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley. “It also allows a person to look up their name to see if they are actually on the Voters List. So, we encourage people, when we get this done, to go in and look and make sure that their name is on the Voters List, because that’s one of the fundamental rights of this country and this town, to get out and vote.”
