As some may be aware, a Newfoundlander recently wowed the audience and judges in his audition for Canada’s Got Talent. Butlerville resident Jacob Lewis, a husband and a father to twin boys, said he mostly sings in the car during his commute. He took to the Canada’s Got Talent stage to sing Bon Jovi’s song “Bed of Roses.” His rendition of the ballad quickly brought the entire crowd to its feet, cheering. Judge Shania Twain was so impressed with his performance that she honoured Lewis with her golden buzzer. The golden buzzer not only sends contestants to the next round, but also awards them a $25,000 prize from CIBC.

At the April 8 Bay Roberts council meeting, Acting Mayor Geoffrey Seymour commended their local celebrity for his success on the show.

“I had to mention before we get started, of course, our own local boy, Jacob Lewis, and his great performance last week on Canada’s Got Talent,” said Seymour. “And I’m sure we’re all looking forward to seeing him participate in the next round. Not everyone gets the golden buzzer, and it was good to see him get the golden buzzer.”

Seymour noted Lewis is well known in the community. Lewis played junior and senior hockey, and was also a member of Bay Roberts Fire Rescue Department. He took part in the recent March 22 charity game between the Bay Roberts RCMP and the fire department which raised money for the local breakfast programs at Amalgamated Academy and Bay Roberts Primary.

“It’s great to see him do well,” said Seymour. “So, here’s to more good luck for Jacob. And I’m sure he knows we’re all behind him.”

Councillor Perry Bowering agreed. “Go, Jacob, go!” he said.
