Paradise to install walk lights at busy roundabout
By Mark Squibb
Paradise council last week approved the installation of a number of rapid flashing pedestrian lights at the Topsail and McNamara Drive roundabout.
Councillor Tommy Maher said that staff sought quotes from four qualified companies for the supply and installation of 16 rapid flashing beacons and the required accessories, and that three of the companies submitted bids.
“Upon review of the bids, Construction Signs Ltd., offered the best value over the projected life of the infrastructure by having a local service presence,” said Maher.
That quote was valued at $79,321, HST included, against a budget of $135,000.
Councillor Glen Carew said he was glad to see the project tenders come in well under budget and that the beacons should be installed in mid-May.
Councillor Patrick Martin said he was pleased to support the motion as a number of people had contacted him and other members of council to share their concerns.
Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street concurred that a number of residents had raised concerns about the intersection.
