Holyrood to honour local historian

By Mark Squibb

Holyrood council earlier this month moved to erect a memorial at the Holyrood Heritage Building in honour of the late Stuart Fraser, an appropriate measure given Fraser’s dedication to the museum over the years.

Fraser, who passed away on November 1, 2024 at 87, spent countless hours repairing artifacts, and cataloging items at the heritage building.

“Being a history buff myself, Stuart and I clicked,” said councillor Bruce King, who brought forward the motion. “He had a great sense of humour… He was dedicated to the preservation of the history of Holyrood.”

King described Fraser as both “an encyclopedia with a beard” and “a perfect example of volunteerism.”

Mayor Gary Goobie said Fraser was a true gentleman who put his heart and soul into the museum.

The memorial will consist of a photo and name plaque.
