CBS writes off uncollectable taxes

After six years of beating dead horses, trying to squeeze blood from turnips, and working the pump on dry wells, the Town of Conception Bay South is writing off some taxes it has deemed uncollectable.

Some $21,414 of business taxes are being written off, along with a further $92,935 in property taxes.

Deputy Mayor Andrea Gosse, who chairs council’s finance committee, said the Town’s accountant recommended the accounts be cleaned up.

“Clean up the books,” agreed Mayor Darrin Bent at council’s December 17 public meeting. “Six years is long enough.”
