Harbour Main father and daughter selected for Canada Games team

Halle Joy, 17, of Harbour Main has been named to the province’s Canada Games Female Softball Team, and with her, her father Craig Joy, has been named one of three assistant coaches.
“My dad is my number one supporter and so the fact that we get to share this experience together is just so special,” said the Roncalli student. “He pushes me to work my hardest… he’s definitely the reason I’ve made it so far with my softball career.”
Halle, one of the province’s most decorated young softball players, also recently committed to play softball next year at Hill College, Texas.
“She’s worked her butt off the last six to seven years, so I’m not surprised that she’s excelled,” said father Craig.
Craig coached both his daughter Halle and his son Mitchell in their youth, and was a talented player himself.
“I love the game, and I’ve always loved the game,” said Craig. “I played when I was young and continued to play right up until 2019. We had a men’s league in Avondale, and so I was at the field probably once or twice a night right up until 2019.”
Craig Power of Middle Cove, Victoria Davis of Torbay, and Michael Penney of Clarenville have also been named to the coaching staff, with Power assuming head coach responsibilities. All four have coached together for a number of years.
Ahead of the Canada Games, which take place in St. John’s from August 8-25, the girls are training several times a week, and hope to attend a spring training tournament south of the border Easter weekend. The girls will also compete in Nova Scotia this May and in Montreal in June.
It’s a lot of softball.
“I like the intensity of the game, and how fast the game moves and how quickly you have to react,” said Halle. “And I love that it’s a team sport.”
A number of other young softball players from Harbour Main have also been named to provincial teams lately. Ty Boland and Aaden Buckle were named to the 2025 U17 Male NL Selects All-Star Team, Claire Strapp was named to the 2025 U15 Female NL Selects All-Star Team, and Carson Dalton was named to the 2025 U15 Male NL Selects All-Star Team.
Other members of the team include Lila Buckle (Harbour Main), Alexis Chaytor (Bay Bulls), Jane Coady (Cape Broyle), Kate Dalton (Bay Bulls), Hannah Healey (Holyrood), Julia McCarthy (Middle Cove), Rachel O’Brien (Cape Broyle), Sophia Penney (Clarenville), Chloe Pitts (Morley’s Siding), Paige Pomroy (Placentia), Sarah Power (Middle Cove), Kiley Rice (Torbay), Brooklyn Shortt (Carbonear), and Madelyn Transue (Mount Pearl).
Sarah and Craig Power of Middle Cove are also a father-daughter duo.
