Paradise approves purchase of additional material for volleyball courts

By Mark Squibb

The cost to construct four beach volleyball courts in Paradise Park ahead of the 2025 Canada Summer Games has increased.

Councillor Patrick Martin, during the November 5 public meeting, brought forward a motion to approve the purchase of nearly $20,000 worth of additional materials, including topsoil, granular fill, timber, and fencing.

Martin noted that construction had already been completed, and that the Town was being billed after the fact.

Council approved the purchase of $19,494, worth of materials, HST included, without further discussion.

The initial construction tender was awarded to lone bidder Modern Paving Limited in the amount of $399,786, HST included, this past July. That was in addition to $360,000 worth of Canada Games grade sand purchased last December to fill the courts.

Factoring in roughly $51,500 in design fees made payable to Allnorth Consultants Ltd., the project has cost the Town about $820,000.
