There were plaudits aplenty at Carbonear council’s regular public meeting earlier this month.
Councillor Malcolm Seymour kicked off the praise during his recreation committee report by saying that recent events including Carbonear Days had gone well, and that tourism in the town is up. Seymour also cited a petition from residents concerning the new recreation master plan, and their plea for a splash pad. Seymour said the Town is working towards that goal and commended those who contributed to the petition and brought it to council.
“To all who worked hard behind the scenes to get this to put to us, to let us know that this community is fighting for everything that they need, I really appreciate it, and I compliment you all out there,” said Seymour.
Later he expressed gratitude to all volunteers in the community.
“From the seniors to the younger people and the generation that’s coming ahead, thank you and I wish that Carbonear can have many more good years with great volunteers like we’ve got now,” he said.
Later in the meeting, council discussed recognition the Town itself recently received from the Department of Health and Community Services’ recruitment office. Councillor Danielle Doyle said the department contacted the Town regarding the development of a toolkit and “the recognition of the Town of Carbonear as a champion community.”
Doyle noted how positive the remarks were, especially coming from the Department of Health. She went on to describe the department as “recognizing everything that residents, council, people in surrounding areas, our schools, everything that everybody’s doing to make Carbonear a great place for people who come to work in healthcare and raise their families.”
