Paradise accepts credit on Topsail Road pedestrian island work

By Mark Squibb

Paradise council has accepted $18,204 in credit following acceptance of a change order related to the construction of a new pedestrian island near the Octagon Pond Marie’s Mini Mart.

Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street, during last week’s public meeting, explained the tender called for the complete removal of sidewalk and asphalt in the general work area, but that the contractor had issued a change order to retain a section of the curb, gutter, sidewalk, and asphalt.

The contractor, Eric Taylor Ltd., offered the Town a credit of $15,830 plus HST for the change order. Council approved it unanimously.

Council awarded the construction of the pedestrian islands and reconfiguration of pedestrian activated signal lights to Eric Taylor Limited this past April at a cost of nearly $240,000.

In 2022, council had estimated the cost of building a pedestrian island and installing pedestrian poles at only about $60,000.
