Bay Roberts council happy to see application for medical clinic

Bay Roberts council is welcoming an application for a new medical clinic across the street from the Bay Arena.
The Town’s director of protective services, Justin Parsons, outlined the application at last week’s public council meeting. It involves a commercial renovation and occupancy of the property at 186 Conception Bay Highway. That’s in a mixed development zone. The building was previously used as a residential property.
Chief Administrative Officer advised council that because it’s in a mixed development zone, commercial use necessitates the application be published to invite public comment. The motion to do just that was made by Councillor Frank Deering and seconded by Councillor Dean Franey.
Council noted the application indicates the nature of the business is “medical health clinic/wellness aesthetics.”
“You’re thinking about new medical people coming into the area, which is great news,” said Mayor Walter Yetman. “But I guess we’ll get more details on that.”
Yetman said it would be great if it is a medical clinic with a doctor, given the issues many residents of the province have finding a doctor and the long waiting lists for medical appointments. A new clinic could be a boon for Bay Roberts, he added, and even benefit people outside the town who are struggling to find a doctor.
“We might need clarification, but from what we see here it is so good to see,” said the mayor. “That’s wonderful.”
Council unanimously approved the motion to publish the application.
