Spaniard’s Bay council maps out five-year wish list for roadwork

By Mark Squibb

During a budget presentation speech earlier this month, Spaniard’s Bay Deputy Mayor Tammy Oliver outlined the Town’s 2024-2028 municipal capital works funding wish list.
Atop the list is the Rectory Avenue and Casey’s Lane, (known as ‘The loop’) road reconstruction and paving project, which, Oliver noted, has already been approved.
Second on the list is road reconstruction and paving for Rocky Pond Road. Oliver said council has already applied for money for that project, though it has not been approved as of yet.
Third on the priority list is reconstruction and paving of Chipman’s Road, with an emphasis on water runoff along the upper section of the street.
Fourth is wastewater treatment.
“This project may shift along the priority list depending on the availability of provincial and federal funding,” said Oliver, who added the Town does not as yet have an estimate for the cost of the work.
Oliver also noted a number of projects eligible for federal gas tax funding. First off is paving along Fitzgerald Road, following by paving along Back Cove Road North and grading and road reconstruction along Ridge Road.
Council will refer to the lists when applying for funding for capital works programs.
