Over 300 junior high students representing 21 schools from across the province competed at the annual Skills Canada intermediate level competition last Saturday at the College of the North Atlantic’s Prince Phillip Drive Campus, and of those 21 schools, Amalgamated Academy of Bay Roberts was named the top performer.

Amalgamated students earned medals in 10 different skills categories.

Shaylene King earned a bronze medal in Public Speaking, while Beth Hiscock earned a bronze medal in Photography.

Madeline Stokes and Rebekah Butt both earned silver medals in TV/Video Production, Paige Dawe and Violet earned silver medals in Website Development, Sara Cummings earned a silver medal in Job Search, Paulusie Nalutuk earned a silver medal in Job Skill Demonstration, and Josie Canning and Molly Brown earned silver medals in Hairstyling.

Gold medalists in most categories are asked to represent their school at the Skills Canada Provincial Competition in March 2024, where they will compete against other secondary students for the opportunity to represent the province at the Skills Canada National Competition held in Quebec City in May 2024.
