‘Signs are going up shortly,’

Harbor Grace Mayor Don Coombs says the Town is one step closer to a much-discussed, long-awaited tax sale.

“The signs are going up shortly,” said Coombs during a public council meeting held on July 17. He added that staff have been in communication with the real estate agent to assess fair market value of the properties.

Coombs said the sale is very important to the Town, and income will be used for development.

A number of properties will be going for sale, though council has not yet released a complete list.

In a follow up e-mail, Town staff said the list of properties cannot be released publicly until the fair market value assessment is completed.

During the meeting, Coombs noted that 143 Lady Lake Road had been removed from the sale list because it had been included by mistake.

Back in February, Coombs announced the Town had sent a letter to the provincial government requesting permission to hold the tax sale. At that time, Coombs stated the process had been in the works for a long, long time.
