Carbonear flies new flagpole policy

Any group that would like to fly a flag over the Carbonear pergola will have to get a bigger version of its banner.

Councillor Chris O’Grady reported Tuesday that the old flagpole that had been at the site has been replaced with a much higher pole.

He noted, with a gentle wryness, that as a result of the size difference, the Town will have to change its flag protocol.

“Most flag policies say if you have a flagpole that is much higher, you have to have a larger flag, so we’re going to have to change the protocol to include the size of the flag,” he said. “If somebody wants to fly the flag, we’re going to recommend they buy the bigger size so we can see it.”
