Community kitchen in the works for Bay Roberts

A not-for-profit group is looking to head up a community kitchen in Bay Roberts.
At last week’s meeting, council voted to approve a request from a not-for-profit organization for a commercial renovation to a building.
“Our protective services (officer) stopped by the address to discuss the renovation,” explained Mayor Walter Yetman. “So, the recommendation is for council to give approval in principal and send the proposal in principle to ServiceNL Plans, Approval, and Electrical for review.”
Councilor Silas Badcock made the motion to approve, adding he was well pleased with the idea.
“They’re going to be helping people in need, so I thought it was fantastic,” said Badcock. Yetman agreed, adding the location was great as well.
The actual location was not disclosed during the meeting.
Councilor Dean Franey then clarified that as far as he understood, the application was for a community kitchen. He said he didn’t think there was any such kitchen operating in Conception Bay North. Councilor Frank Deering said that local churches will occasionally host a community dinner.
The commercial renovation fee was waived for the non-profit group.
