Dental hygienist likes Holyrood’s location

Holyrood is filling in another gap in its service offerings with the opening of a dental hygienist’s clinic.
Natalie McDonald, originally from St. Anthony, has a history in general practice dental clinics that spans over a decade. She had long set a goal to open her own practice. Her new clinic, Modern Dental Hygiene, in the same building as Proactive Wellness and Prevention in Holyrood, is it.
“I was technically supposed to open on February 15, but that’s when everything got shut down again for a month,” she said referring to a Covid cluster that affected many businesses this past winter.
Although McDonald is not a Holyrood native, she and her growing family moved to the community with the hope of it being a little more family oriented than what she was used to. So far, she has had nothing short of a good experience as both a resident and business owner, she said.
“Holyrood is an up and coming community, and it seems like it’s very centred with community events,” McDonald said. “I grew up in a small community, and that’s something that myself and my husband wanted for our kids as well… It’s a very interesting town with a lot going on right now.”
McDonald hopes her clinic will become part of a growing business base in the town.
“There’s a lot to take part in here,” she said. “I’m also hoping to eventually start doing some school presentations.”
She is hoping her clinic’s location in Conception Bay Centre will fill a niche.
“Many dental offices are backlogged with trying to catch up with hygiene appointments with being shut down twice due to COVID,” McDonald said, adding some people find their oral health at risk after being due for a cleaning for so long. “This can in turn exacerbate oral conditions, especially for clients who are on a three to four month cleaning regime, and can also have an effect on their systemic health as a result. I’m hoping to alleviate some of that backlog.”
