Clarke’s Beach hopes to upgrade playground in the fall

The Town of Clarke’s Beach will ask the provincial government for approval to reallocate some federal funding to upgrade playground equipment.
While the money is federal, administration of it is done by the Province, which evaluates projects.
The Town had been pre-approved to add matting to a playground and had been trying to find someone to install it. However, at council’s August 5meeting, Mayor Danielle Bussey said the playground equipment should be updated before installing the matting.
Bussey suggested council take the money from the Canada Community-Building Fund that they had planned to use for the matting and instead use it to update the slide, seesaw, and other equipment. She noted the slide is the same one she used when she was a child.
Councillor Jim Giles said he would look into Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program, which supports children’s activities, to see if it will support the project, as well.
Bussey said council could make a motion to reallocate the funds, and if the Town doesn’t get help from Jumpstart, it can still order the equipment, which would hopefully be installed in the fall.
The motion passed unanimously.
