Recreational fishers leaving an offal mess in Holyrood

by Mark Squibb, The Shoreline

Holyrood Mayor Laura Carwley said that while some people have complained about a lack of garbage bins along the harbourfront, others need to use the ones that are available for their proper purpose – which doesn’t include the dumping of fish guts.

The mayor said Town staff have been having trouble with people gutting and cleaning fish along the waterfront and then dumping the remains in the town-owned garbage bins.

While she acknowledged that it can be hard to find a good spot to clean your fish, Crawley asserted the waterfront is not the place to do it.

“Take your cooler, pack it up, put it on ice, put it in the cold water, and take it home and clean and gut and dispose of it properly, please,” said Crawley. “Public Works should not be dumping out this refuge.”
