Manuels River pedestrian light set to be relit soon
By Craig Westcott
A pedestrian activated light at the crosswalk near the Manuels River Centre will soon be back in operation, says CBS Mayor Darrin Bent.
The light was put out of service when a vehicle hit the pole supporting the light during a crash back in February.
“A lot of people have been asking about the lights at Manuels River, because they’ve been down all summer, because of the damage done to one of the poles,” said Bent last week. “The pole is in, it’s just arrived and we’re just now working out with the contractor the installation and then for Newfoundland Power to get the light turned back on. So, it will probably take a week or two, but it’s all set to be installed.”
While the crosswalk has remained in service at the site, the Town encouraged pedestrians to use an underpass at Manuels Bridge for crossing the busy four lanes of road in the interim.
Mayor Bent said the usually busy area is getting even busier now as activities gear up at the centre and nearby schools have resumed classes.
“We’re still waiting on the contractor’s schedule, and then Newfoundland Power usually takes a little bit of time after that to come and commission it,” Bent noted, adding he will be relieved once the infrastructure is all back in place and working again.
