Council approves contract to fix up trail to Paradise Elementary

Children on Silverbirch Crescent and neighbouring streets will have an easier time walking to and from school as the Town of Paradise has approved a new, 130-metre trail connecting Silverbirch Crescent and Paradise Elementary.
A well-worn footpath already exists between the school and the crescent, but over the next two months the Grand Concourse Authority will add granular fill and retaining walls to bring the trail up to snuff.
“The intention right now is to knock off the high spots, fill in the low spots, remove some of the shrubbery, so that when we finish this piece of work, there will be a trail from Silverbirch to the road in behind the school,” said engineering manager Chris Connolly.
The first 75 metres of trail leading up from Silverbird will require particular attention.
The Town budgeted $382,000 for trail construction this calendar year, $188,000 of which was earmarked for the Silverbirch Crescent trail.
Construction began late last month, and the work is expected to be completed by October. The trail will remain open during construction, however folks are asked to use caution and follow posted signage.
The Town plans to groom the trail in the winter to allow students to walk to school safely in the wintertime.
