Branch 50 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Kelligrews drew a big response from students in Conception Bay South for this year’s provincial Remembrance Poster and Literary contest. The contest is open to primary, junior, intermediate and senior students. “We had entries in every category from all across CBS and six of our students went on to win at the provincial level,” said Legion member Eileen Kavanagh. Those top entrants included Hayden Bennett Fairdos of Villanova Junior High who won 3rd place for an intermediate essay; Jillian Anderson of St. George’s Elementary who won 2nd place for a junior essay; Olivia Fagan of Upper Gullies Elementary who took 1st place for a primary black & white poster; Andrew Peddle of Villanova Junior High School who won 1st for an intermediate black & white poster; Nicholas Warford of Upper Gullies Elementary who placed 2nd for a primary colour poster; and Lexie Hewitt of Frank Roberts Junior High who won 3rd for an intermediate colour poster. Members of Branch 50 held a reception late last month for the students who participated in the contest.
