Bay Roberts forming emergency planning committee

Bay Roberts council will have to choose two members to sit on the town’s newly established emergency planning committee.
At the October 13th council meeting, Director of Protective Services Greg Squires said the Town needs to create an emergency planning committee.
“That committee is supposed to consist of two members of council, the director of planning, CAO, fire chief, enforcement officer, (and staff from) public works, recreation, tourism, the town clerk, and manager of marketing and communications, and anyone else that will be deemed necessary,” said Squires.
He recommended council approve the establishment of the committee and designate the list of people to serve on it.
“But we need to identify two councillors,” Squires said.
Councillor Dean Franey made a motion to establish the committee and designate the list of members as suggested by Squires. It was seconded by Deputy Mayor Neil Kearley.
“I think we saw last summer that this kind of thing can be very important,” said Franey. “It might be something different the next time, but it’s very important to have.”
Mayor Geoff Seymour agreed. “Yes, the emergency response plan is vital to any town,” he said. “So, we’re just finalizing our plans on this one.”
Franey’s motion carried unanimously. The council has not yet to confirm which of its members will sit on the committee.
