King bemoans theft at Holyrood’s community garden

Councillor Bruce King says he was dismayed to learn of a recent theft of produce from the town’s community garden.
“Even though stuff is expensive and everything else, there’s still no reason to steal,” said King, who brought the matter to councils’ attention last month.
“I do a little bit of gardening, and I know how much time and effort people put into it, and there’s nothing more disheartening after three or four months of watching stuff grow and to go back and find all that’s left is holes in the ground where somebody stole it,” said King. “If somebody was really hurting for food, I would bet dollars to donuts if you went and asked those people that have plots in the community garden, they would be more than happy to give you a share of their potatoes or turnip or whatever it is they’re growing. So, there’s really no need to be stealing stuff from the community garden.”
King, who noted some people are stealing from grocery stores as well, asked would be thieves to “have a little bit of consideration go the people who actually put the time and effort into growing these things. There nothing more disheartening than someone coming along after all your hard work and stealing it.”
