ATV bypass vote expected this month

CBS council expects to vote this month on proposed amendments to its development regulations and Town Plan that could pave the way for the creation on an ATV trail on the south side of Peacekeepers Way and along the community’s back country.

Councillor-at-large Rex Hillier advised council July 14 that a report on the proposed changes, compiled by commission George Trainor, has been received by the Town.

Trainor reviewed the proposed changes and conducted a public hearing earlier this summer at the Legion Hall in Kelligrews that drew a large crowd of ATV enthusiasts, some of whom argued ATVs should be allowed back on the CBS T’Railway, which has been groomed for walkers and bicyclists. However, such a provision is not contained in the regulations drafted by the Town’s planning department which were the subject of Trainor’s review.

“I guess we’re hoping that come next meeting we should be able to take a final vote on that rezoning,” Hillier said.

If approved by council, the changes will still have to be approved by the provincial government before being signed into law.
