Paradise to apply for funding for boathouse

By Mark Squibb

Not long on the tail of the 2026 Paddle in Paradise Dragon Boat Festival, the Town of Paradise has applied for funding for the construction of the community boathouse, which would double as a permanent home for the Dragons.

During the July 21 committee meeting councillor Jennifer Hiscock noted the Town submitted a funding application to the federal government.

If approved, the project cost is to be split 60/40 between the feds and the Town.

The Town acquired the land in 2021 and partnered with the Avalon Dragons shortly thereafter to plan the construction of the boathouse.

Council awarded a tender in 2022 at a cost of $211,589, inclusive of HST, for the design of the structure.
