Volunteers a major part of the community, says Holyrood councillor

Holyrood councillor Mable Tilley marked National Volunteer Week during last week’s public council by speaking about the impact volunteers have on the community.
The councillor, herself a volunteer of many years with the Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue group, said volunteers are the oft forgotten heroes within the community, especially in times of trouble.
“They help with libraries, they help with programs throughout the community,” said Tilley. “So, I just wanted to do a big shout out to all the volunteers that are out there. It doesn’t matter if you say, ‘I’m only doing this,’ you’re still a major part of the community, and I wanted to say, personally, ‘Thank you.’”
National Volunteer Week 2026 runs from April 19-25.
