New apartment building approved for Holyrood

By Mark Squibb

Residents can expect to see new homes, as well as an apartment building, going up along the main highway in Holyrood in the near future.

During the February 10 council meeting, council approved development applications for two homes along the main highway, as well as an apartment building at 431 Conception Bay Highway.

The Town received one complaint regarding the apartment building application, and Mayor Laura Crawly said that resident’s concerns were addressed, without divulging what those specific concerns were.

The mayor also noted the approval is subject to the applicant adhering to Holyrood’s development regulations and green space conditions.

Council also approved a 10 percent variance for a residential development along the highway, a one-time water connection fee forgiveness for a residential development along Sir Albert Walsh Drive, and various other applications including permits for a commercial fence, residential demolition, occupancy and home-based business.

And at its regular public meeting last month, council approved an application for a home-based business office at 2 O’Neill’s Road.

Councillor Steve Winsor noted that whenever the Town receives a home-based business application, things such as parking, staffing, and the potential impact on traffic are all taken into consideration.

“This doesn’t apply in this case,” said Winsor. “This is strictly an office.”

Council also a list of residential, occupancy, garage, demolition, and site-preparation permits.
