Fix coming soon for cool draft at Carbonear pool
By Mark Squibb
Folks going for a dip at the Carbonear swimming pool in recent weeks may have found the water, and the deck around it, a little colder than usual.
That’s because the Town has had some issues with the specialised industrial dehumidification system that heats both the pool water and deck temperature, named a Dectron unit.
Recreation director Rob Button, during council’s January 29 public meeting, said the unit is not working to it’s full capacity and new parts have been sourced. He expected those parts to arrive within the week and that repairs would be completed by the following week.
“I do want to thank our patrons for their understanding, and working with us through this matter,” said Button.
In other recreation news, Button said staff are continuing to work on a conceptual design for a new inclusive playground and splash pad.
That plan should be ready within a couple of months.
Staff also hope to have the outdoor skating rink ready ahead of the winter carnival. Opening celebrations will be held Thursday evening at the recreation complex.
Button said this year’s carnival will offer something for residents of all ages and should be plenty of fun.
Meanwhile, Carbonear’s many recreations programs, said Button, are being well attended.
