Holyrood to co-host business mixer with Marine Institute

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Holyrood and the Marine Institute are looking to co-host a mixer to promote local businesses that may be able to provide services for clients at The Launch, the Marine Institute’s Holyrood-based research lab.

“The Launch has clients from all over the world that are coming to that centre, and many times when they get here, they are looking for other resources that they need, that the Marine Institute doesn’t offer, but they need to complete their scope of work, and they don’t realize it until they get here,” explained Deputy Mayor Michele Woodford during council’s November public meeting. “So, what the Marine Institute has reached out to us with, is that ‘We want to have an event, we need to identify what resources we need,’ and we want to be able to bring in the business communities within the town and other organizations outside the town, whatever they have identified. We need to try and fill that gap. And that’s what this event will do.”

Woodford said that a date hadn’t been set, although the event will likely be held in winter or spring of 2026.
The Town had attempted to host a business mixer this past fall.

“Many of you are aware that we tried to do an event back in October, with our business community, however, that did not pan out,” said Woodford. ‘We didn’t get the volume of responses that we needed to hold the event. I think that with the provincial election and the municipal election, everything was coming to a head and really, we weren’t able to put together enough people to make it worthwhile.”
