Paradise council meetings to remain closed to public attendance for now

By Mark Squibb

Recently elected members of Paradise council held their first public meeting last Tuesday at the Paradise Double Ice Complex gymnasium following a swearing in ceremony, in full view of their friends and family.
Friends and family, however, won’t be invited for the next meeting.

It was the first public council meeting open to an audience since a fire damaged the Town Hall and adjacent depot on February 9. Town staff have since relocated to 1655 Topsail Road — the location of Paradise’s old town hall.

Public meetings, meanwhile, have been livestreamed from the Double Ice Complex boardroom, and members of the public are not permitted inside due to space restrictions. That practice will resume beginning with the October 28 public meeting. There is no word on when Paradise council will allow members of the public to once again attend their sessions in person.
