Masons may be known for their secret handshakes and confidential membership rites, but there’s nothing mysterious about their charitable efforts. The latest example is a $10,200 donation to the Red Cross in support of the North Shore wildfire victims. The money will be matched by the federal and provincial governments, meaning the donation from its Benevolence Fund by the District Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador, Grand Lodge of Scotland, as the group is officially known, will turn into $30,600 for the people of the North Shore. On hand for the presentation were, from left: the proxy District Grand Master of Newfoundland and Labrador Brother Dr. Douglas Nicol, the Canadian Red Cross’ emergency management coordinator Robert Doyle, and District Grand Master Brother Larry Bradley.
