Kent looking for resolution

I wish to offer you the following statement.
I was in court last week, once again attempting to move towards a resolution of my matter with the City of Mount Pearl. It is disappointing that this is still ongoing six years later. Our community has clearly moved on, and yet here we are, with no end in sight.
All that has been accomplished in six years is to cost everyone money, not the least of which is the taxpaying citizens of Mount Pearl. Between my case and the Ledwell/Power case, based on council records, legal costs, consultant costs, and the costs of a flawed investigation, over one million dollars of taxpayers’ money has been spent so far. And who knows how much more is to come?
It would cost the City far less to settle this than what it has already spent.
When this whole thing started, I believed this would be resolved within a few weeks. I don’t believe that any reasonable person would agree that we should be where we are now, six years later. Taxpayers’ money is being wasted on what is now a personal feud.
I have been trying for years to get the Mount Pearl City Council to sit down and resolve this dispute. For some reason, they chose not to.
The City should stop stalling and wasting taxpayers’ money. This matter needs to be resolved, and I was at court once again because I remain ready to move forward.
My family deserves closure. Taxpayers deserve better.
Thank you.
Stephen P. Kent,
Mount Pearl
