Town sitting on Manuels River stability study for now

By Craig Westcott

The report is on the risk of landslides on a section of bank along Manuels River, but CBS council is not ready to release the report just yet.
Council ordered a second study of the stability along the banks of the river near Marthas Place, Flats Road and Smiths Place last February, following the results of an earlier assessment, which was conducted by engineering consulting firm Stantec.
The same firm was paid some $99,500 for the more intensive second study, which involved a subsurface geotechnical investigation and analysis.
“We have received the study from Stantec,” councillor-at-large Rex Hillier confirmed. “It is a technical report with specific reference to the status of individual properties. We will be discussing it with the property owners but will have to redact the information related to other properties. So right now, it looks like we may not be making it public.”
The first study was ordered after a landslide two years ago in an area on the western bank near where the river opens up to start forming Bubble Pond.
