Holyrood follows suit on ‘X’ ban

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Holyrood has joined the growing number of municipalities parting ways with billionaire Elon Musk’s social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) following the electric car and rocket tycoon’s ingratiation into a divisive American government that has time and again made light of Canada’s sovereignty.
At the rate municipalities across the province have been logging out of X you may be harder pressed to find a town that hasn’t yet deactivated its account than one that has not.
“The engagement is not high anymore,” said councillor Laura Crawley. “We don’t find there’s that much communication going through and with the amount of misinformation and media garbage going on right now, we feel that is not the best option for us as a town, so we’re going to step back and deactivate that account.”
The Town will continue to use social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, along with the Voyent mass notification system to keep in touch with residents.
