CBS to wait until general electionto fill Connors’ seat

There were a number of empty chairs around the Conception Bay South council table during last week’s public meeting.
Most notable, perhaps, was that of former councillor Paul Connors.
Connors of course had stepped aside from his council duties this winter to run for the Liberals in Avalon, a race he won handily, earning over 58 percent of the vote.
Mayor Darrin Bent said Connor’s chair will remain empty until the general municipal election, scheduled for this October.
The Shoreline followed up with Bent afterwards, and the mayor said it just wouldn’t be prudent to hold a by-election so near to the general election.
Bent, who served two terms on council with Connors, extended his congratulations to the new Liberal MP.
“We wish him all the best representing Avalon,” said the mayor.
Also absent from the meeting were councillors Gerard Tilley, Joshua Barrett, and Shelley Moores.
