CBS Minor Baseball hits another live drive for girl players

By Mark Squibb

CBS Kiwanis Minor Baseball hosted it’s third annual Female Baseball Day at Queen Elizabeth last month.
“It was a really good day,” said the league’s Female Director, Maggie Corcoran. “It’s a way for us to introduce baseball female athletes who might not have been exposed to it before.”
She said that the event is a reflection of efforts across the province, and the country, to grow female baseball.
“Here in Conception Bay South, we’re proud to be part of this momentum and are working hard to create space for girls to grow and thrive in the sport,” said Corcoran. “There’s been a real push to make sure we create space for females within CBS Baseball.”
In 2023, CBS Kiwanis Minor Baseball entered its first all-female team in the 12U provincial tournament, and in 2024 competed in the League of Their Own (LOTO) League, which was created specifically to foster girls participation in baseball.
Looking ahead to 2025, the league anticipates fielding both 12U and 14U all-female teams.
“My daughters played on the 12U last year, and it was such a positive experience for them,” said Corcoran. “You’re playing with other girls who are all learning the same skills… and it’s a great way to make friends and interact with other people.”
