Paradise mulling wage increase for security guards

By Mark Squibb

Paradise council is looking to approve a wage increase for security guards contracted by the Town through a third-party.
Spectrum Investigation and Security provides the security services. The current rate of pay is $22.77 per hour, per security guard.
The contract, inked in 2021, requires wage increases upon an increase to the minimum wage.
Given the 40-cent minimum wage increase of April 1, the company requested an increase of 48-cents per hour, bringing the hourly wage to $23.25. The total net increase would be $165.60, across 300 hours.
“This is pretty standard,” said councillor Deborah Quilty. “We’ve had these year-after-year in terms of the legislation with minimum wage increases.”
Council discussed the matter during the March 25 public committee meeting and moved it to be voted on at a later date.
