Vehicle takes our Manuels River Centre’s crosswalk light

By Craig Westcott

The pedestrian-activated traffic light over the crosswalk leading to the Manuels River Centre is going to be out of commission for a couple of months at least.

The pole was damaged by a vehicle that struck it shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday, February 17.

“The replacement of the infrastructure and the reinstallation of the flashing light is expected to take several months,” said CBS councillor Melissa Hardy. “The pedestrian crosswalk remains. However, the flashing lights will not be operational. So, for added safety, the pedestrian underpass is available as the alternative to crossing the road directly. We appreciate everyone’s understanding… I just wanted to let everyone know.”

Mayor Darrin Bent said the poles for such lights are designed and manufactured specifically for each location.

“They’re not just sitting on a shelf anywhere, unfortunately,” he said. “So hopefully that (replacement) will happen sooner rather than later. I urge everyone to use caution when crossing in that area, and if you can go under (to the underpass), please go under.”
