Holyrood accepts five years’ worth of federal funding under old gas tax formula

The Town of Holyrood is some $640,000 the richer after accepting federal gas tax monies during last week’s public meeting.
Councillor Laura Crawley moved that council accept $641,972 in federal Canada Community- Building Fund monies, formerly known as the gas tax.
The funds will need to be used for eligible projects within the next five years.
“We have such great uses of our gas tax money, it’s been fantastic,” said Crawley. “We’ve used it for, not general maintenance, but to build and to add to our community, like boardwalks and our community centre. We are very privileged to tap into this money and be able to access it.”
Gas tax monies have also been used to pave roads and purchase new water pumps in recent years.
Mayor Gary Goobie noted the money is used very effectively and on priority items.
