A CLIMBING SET FIT FOR SAMMY—Admirals Academy Grade 5 student Aiden Porter cut the ribbon on a new climbing pyramid donated to the school in memory of his younger brother Samuel ‘Sammy’ Porter at a ribbon cutting ceremony held last week. Following the younger Porter’s death in July of 2022, his family established Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation, so named for Sammy’s love of climbing, to help cover the cost of recreation enrollment fees for families in need and to fund recreation projects for different community groups across town. In addition to the new climber, the playground behind the school has been dubbed the Sam Zone, complete with signage encouraging children to ‘Climb& Play the Sammy Way – Stay Safe, Share, Be Kind-Just have fun!’ On hand for the presentation was extended family member Paul Walsh. “Sam would be so happy with this, and I’m sure he’s looking down on us, upside down in a tree somewhere,” said Walsh. “Most every time I saw Sammy he was upside down.” Mark Squibb photo
