Holyrood drone company gets cleared for takeoff

A company that teaches people how to fly drones has been given approval to set up a storefront in Holyrood.
Holyrood Deputy Mayor Michelle Woodford noted the application to open a shop at 105 Conception Bay Highway was advertised for public comment, as is required by the development regulations. No adverse comments were submitted by residents or members of the public.
Woodford said the location is the former STOP building near Murray’s Peak.
“It is drones, basically, no helicopters,” said Woodford, in reply to a comment from the council table about the nature of the craft being based at the building. “There was a (different) business there before but we still had to do a discretionary use because it changed from what it was originally approved for.”
Mayor Gary Goobie added the company, RPM Aerial Services Inc., has already been operating in town for some time, “and doing some very successful work.”
The company also provides aerial mapping using lasers.
“It’s great to see them now moving on into their own building,” said the mayor. “So, we wish them all the success.”
