Paradise awards street maintenance contract

By Mark Squibb

Paradise council last week awarded the annual street maintenance contract.

The Town had budgeted $695,000 for asphalt and concrete maintenance in 2024, including repairs for roads, curb, gutter, and sidewalk. The bid for the tender closed May 27 and the Town received four submissions.

Farrell’s Excavating Ltd., submitted the lowest tender price, coming in at $442,875 plus HST.

Deputy Mayor Kimberly Street said the engineering committee was provided the information by e-mail, but had made no recommendation

Street then moved that council award the tender to Farrell’s Excavating upon final review and acceptance of its tender documents.
Councillor Patrick Martin asked whether staff had compiled a list of streets that will receive maintenance.

Street replied in the affirmative and proceeded to read from the maintenance list — Topsail Road, Kenmount Road, St. Anne’s Park, Elizabeth Drive, Topsail Pond and the Three Island Pond area, Stokes Road, and Camrose Drive. Buckingham Drive and Ridge Road Drive will receive speed cushions. Lanark Drive will also receive traffic calming measures.

Martin asked if Street also had a list of sidewalks and curbs that will receive maintenance. Street said there was a list but did not have it with her at the moment. Street said she could get the information for Martin at the next committee meeting.
