CBS council amends soccer field rental fees
By Mark Squibb
Conception Bay South council last month doubled down on increased rental fees at the Topsail soccer pitch.
Deputy Mayor Andrea Gosse noted the fees had been approved and implemented in Budget 2024, but because of a typo in the 2024 Schedule of Rates and Fees it had to be amended by council.
As per the increase, all groups registered with the CBS Soccer Association, including Senior, Challenge Cup, Masters, Jubilee, and Intermediate, will pay a flat rate fee of $150 plus HST per game, regardless of whether the lights are turned on or off. That’s up from the 2023 rate of $88.50 plus HST per game. Practices remain free.
Under the new rates, local schools and other minor groups outside the umbrella of the association will no longer be able to use the field free of charge.
Groups not registered with the CBS Soccer Association will be charged $85 plus HST per hour for use of half of the field, $150 plus HST per hour for use of the full field, and $182.74 per hour for use of either half of full field with the lights turned on. Those fees are up from $70.80 plus HST, 106.20 plus HST, and $132.74 plus HST respectively.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association will be charged a flat rate per hour of $125 plus HST for full field usage regardless of whether the lights are on, up from $104.35 plus HST, and ‘no shows’ will be charged 50 percent of the rental value, unless the rental is cancelled three hours prior.
