Mr. Reid, of Torbay, NL, enlisted in the Canadian Army at the age of 19 and was sent overseas for training. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, he stormed Juno Beach in Normandy, France, with the Queen’s Own Rifles amidst heavy enemy machine gun and mortar fire. He was badly injured and lost his left leg above the knee. Facey is part of The War Amps Operation Legacy, in which members of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program keep the memories of war veterans alive.
