Province to cover Paradise’s NL Power bill

By Mark Squibb

Paradise Town Council last week approved payment of a Newfoundland Power invoice totalling $130,400, HST included, although the Province will ultimately cover the cost of the bill.
Councillor Deborah Quilty brought forward the motion to pay the invoice, which relates to the Evergreen Village Phase 1 project.
“The Evergreen Village project requires Newfoundland Power representatives to be onsite when working around their underground infrastructure,” explained Quilty.
The councillor noted the bill covers all personnel standby costs to date.
“This was a known project cost, and was included in the overall project budget,” added Quilty.
She said the invoice will be submitted to the Province and the Town will be reimbursed as per the project funding agreement.
Council approved the motion unanimously.
All told, council has budgeted $660,000 in Budget 2024 for Phase 1 of the project.
