Enforcement is coming, warns Quilty

By Mark Squibb

Even though it goes against Town policy, some people are still dumping snow from their driveway into the road, and Councillor Deborah Quilty is imploring residents to stop.
“We’re getting a number of complaints from residents who are seeing people clearing out their driveways and plowing the snow directly in the middle of the road… impeding traffic and impeding pedestrians going around,” Quilty said Tuesday, during the public council meeting.
Quoting the official policy, Quilty said no person shall shovel, plow, blow, or cause to be shoveled, plowed, or blown snow from a driveway or a parking lot onto any highway, street, or sidewalk within the municipal boundaries of Paradise.
“Our staff have to go back after the fact and clean those streets again,” she said.
Quilty has brought the issue before council for a number of years in a row, with an increased number of residents contacting the Town about the issue after the most recent snowfall.
“It was extremely bad,” said the councillor. “Residents have been reaching out all over the place because of different areas in the town being affected by snow out on the road. Enforcement is coming.”
